I graduated in Fine Art from Central St. Martin’s (University of the Arts, London) in 1996, as a mature student. Living and working in London, I’m basically a figurative painter, currently concentrating on portraits and figure-painting from life, together with studio still-lifes.
I’m interested in combining the delicate with the monumental, energetic handling with sensitive drawing, and sensuous colours with firm composition.
In a way all my paintings are portraits, whether of people or things. They’re usually still and meditative, trying to feel and understand the inner life of what I’m painting, and combining a bold approach with many layers of refinements.
I’ve had paintings pre-selected for the NPG BP Award (2015), National Open Art Competion (2015), Royal Society of Oil Painters (2016 & 2017), Royal Society of Portrait Painters (2016), and in my local Camberwell Open Art Competition (London) won 2nd prize (2016) and 3rd prize (2015).
